The National conference on Undergraduate Innovation and Entrepreneurship (NCUIE)is one of the top three annual events organized by the Ministry of Education. It covers a wide range of academic disciplines including science, engineering, agriculture, medicine, humanities, and law. This conference is gaining popularity as one of the most widely covered and influential events in the reform of undergraduate education in universities throughout China. Additionally, it is also known for its high program quality.
This year, there were only 508 programs cherry-picked from national level Undergraduate Innovation and Entrepreneurship Training Programs and nominated to the 15th National Conference on Undergraduate Innovation and Entrepreneurship, constituting less than 1% of the total number of projects. These programs were recommended and evaluated by experts from universities affiliated with various central ministries and local education administrative departments.
The team project, titled "Intelligent Gesture Recognition Control System based on Nano Flexible Sensors and MEMS Accelerometers," from the College of Information Science and Technology, has been successfully selected as the exemplar project for reform achievements at the 15th National University Students' Innovation and Entrepreneurship Annual Conference. This project was originated from College Student Innovation and Entrepreneurship Training Programs, and has undergone continuous in-depth research.
The outstanding project has actively participated in various competitions at different levels, including university, city, and national levels. Unsurprisingly, it has achieved notable accolades, such as the second prize in the Internet Plus College Students' Innovation and Entrepreneurship Competition in Beijing, the top prize in the Challenge Cup Capital University Students' Extracurricular Academic Science and Technology Competition in Beijing, the first prize in the Huawei Cloud Cup · 2021 Artificial Intelligence Application Innovation Competition, and the prestigious national top prize in the Challenge Cup National Extracurricular Academic Science and Technology Competition for College Students. Moreover, the project received the "Star" level recognition in the "Futuristic Technology" Special Competition of the Challenge Cup National College Students' Extracurricular Academic and Technological Works Competition.
This project aims to address the communication challenges faced by individuals with hearing disabilities in their daily lives. While current electronic strain sensors and fiber optic sensors can meet basic data collection requirements, they are prone to interference from external magnetic fields, have restricted deformability, and are prohibitively expensive for everyday usage. To overcome these limitations, our team has developed an innovative flexible nano resistance sensor.
By leveraging this sensor technology, our intelligent gesture recognition control system enables the recording and real-time translation of sign language. This breakthrough allows deaf individuals to overcome communication barriers and smoothly integrate into mainstream society. Furthermore, the versatility of our gesture recognition technology extends beyond communication, finding applications in fields such as virtual reality, medical rehabilitation, intelligent driving assistance, and smart home applications. This not only enhances the usability of our system but also opens doors for problem-solving and revenue generation in various industries.
