The Department of Computer Science, which is one of preponderant disciplines of BUCT, was set up in 1987. The department offers one bachelor program in Computer Science and Technology, two master programs of first-level discipline in Software Engineering and Computer Science and Technology, and one doctoral program of second-level discipline in Computer Technology and Intelligent System belonging to the first-level discipline in Control Science and Engineering.
The distinguishing characteristics of our department are Requirement-Oriented, Characteristic-Highlighted, and Cultivating Diversely. Our main educational directions include Software Engineering, Intelligent System Engineering, and Visual Media Technology. After years in development, these faculty members who develop comprehensive qualities with innovative spirit, have rich experience in both teaching and practice. They have completed hundreds of 863 projects, NSFC projects, the chief scientific and technological projects, Beijing NSF projects, and science and technology research projects of CNPC and Sinopec in total.
The Department of Computer Science has now about 24 faculties, including 6 professors, 9 associate professors, and 9 assistant professors. The teachers with Ph.D degree account for 80%, and these with overseas education or training experience for 50% of the total ones. The teachers include young excellent investigators, including Beijing Renowned Teaching Master, New Century Excellent Talent of Ministry of Education, Fok Ying-Tong Education Foundation for Young Teachers, Beijing Excellent Youth Backbone Teachers, Beijing Teaching Virtue Advanced Individual, etc.
The department has a teaching team of high quality that has been recognized as the Beijing Municipal Education Team, won the first prize of Municipal Educational Achievements Award for once, and the second prize for twice. In addition to building up two courses of the Beijing municipal high-quality course construction, the team edits 7 textbooks, 2 of which are nationally planned for “Twelfth Five-year Plan” and “Eleventh Five-year Plan” and 5 regarded as Beijing municipal high-quality teaching materials. The book series on computer education in universities edited by professors of the department in chief, associated with teachers from Tsinghua University, Nanjing University, South China University of Technology et al., published by Tsinghua University Press are popular among many universities. Under instructions of the team, students of the department have made great achievements recently in many competitions, including the ACM International Collegiate Programming Contest, the International Software Design Contest, the International Collegiate ITAT Contest, etc.
