Recently, the Beijing Municipal Science & Technology Commission and the Administrative Commission of Zhongguancun Science Park released the list of Beijing Key Laboratories approved for establishment in 2025. The College of Information Science and Technology, Beijing University of Chemical Technology (BUCT) has been officially approved to build the Beijing Key Laboratory of Embodied Intelligence for Chemical Engineering Processes.

As an important part of Beijing’s scientific and technological innovation system, Beijing Key Laboratories serve as critical innovation bases for gathering, training and utilizing outstanding innovative talents and conducting high-level scientific research. They aim to tackle key scientific and technological challenges, promote the transformation of scientific and technological achievements, and foster new economic growth drivers.The successful approval of the Beijing Key Laboratory of Embodied Intelligence for Chemical Engineering Processes marks a further enhancement of the school’s innovation capacity in cutting-edge technological exploration and key industrial deployment in the field of “AI + Chemical Engineering”.The school will take this opportunity to continuously strengthen organized research, promote high-level academic research, technology transfer and innovative talent cultivation, so as to make new contributions to serving the high-quality development of the capital and supporting the construction of Beijing as an international center for scientific and technological innovation.

The Beijing Key Laboratory of Embodied Intelligence for Chemical Engineering Processes was applied for by Beijing University of Chemical Technology, relying on the School of Information Science and Technology as the research institution, and co-constructed with Sinochem Digital Intelligence Technology Co., Ltd.Professor Wang Youqing, Dean of the School of Information Science and Technology, recipient of the National Natural Science Foundation for Outstanding Young Scholars, IET Fellow and Fellow of the Chinese Association of Automation, serves as the Director of the laboratory.

The laboratory mainly focuses on the deep integration of embodied intelligence theory into chemical engineering scenarios, breaking through the limitations of traditional industrial intelligent systems, and forming a new paradigm of chemical engineering intelligence featuring environmental embedding and autonomous evolution. Its main research directions include:

Embodied perception of chemical engineering equipment, aiming to establish a theoretical system for real-time perception in chemical engineering environments;

Autonomous decision-making for chemical engineering systems, realizing the paradigm shift from automation to autonomy;

Collaborative interaction of chemical engineering equipment, promoting in-depth human-machine-environment collaborative interaction;

Intelligent prevention and control of chemical engineering processes, constructing a full-life-cycle risk management and control framework.
